Dave Gaskill, Born, Liverpool, England 1939. Served an engineering apprenticeship and emerged somewhat battered and bruised after many a battle with lathes and milling machines, as a designer draughtsman.

Engineering's loss was to become the media's gain (Dave perhaps misguidingly believes) when he entered the world of newspapers viaThe Rand Daily Mail (Johannesburg) in 1973.

This was the start of a cartooning endeavor which took him to many papers in many places, the more notable being The Sunday Times (Jo'burg), The West Australian (Perth), Herald (Auckland). Added to these were advertising and magazine assignments.

Returning to Britain's sun-kissed shores in 1987 Dave succeeded KAL as editorial cartoonist on the groundbreaking Today newspaper. Sadly, this paper closed in 1995 and our ink-spattered hero, armed only with a pocketful of pens, went freelance. Since then he has produced cartoons and illustrations for The Mail on Sunday, The News of the World and has now been the resident doodler on The Sun for over four years.

This year he was runner-up in the political cartoonist section of The Cartoon Arts Trust Awards 2000. He has illustrated a number of books both in the UK and Overseas.
